Cooling Centers Offer Relief from Brooklyn Heat Wave

Temperatures will reach 95 degrees and show no signs of coming down any time soon.

There's no getting around it: it's hot out. 

Windsor Terrace, Kensington and the rest of the city-at-large is in the middle of a heat wave, with temperatures reaching 95 degrees and showing no signs of coming down any time soon. 

Few things will provide relief from the heat like the comforts of airconditioning, so if yours is busted or you don't have one, head to one of the city's cooling centers. Patch has compiled a list of nearby community centers and senior centers offering respite from this scorcher: 

  • Prospect Hill Senior Services Center: 283 Prospect Ave. Open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., for Saturday and Sunday, call 718-499-9574 for hours. Hours of operation may extend during a heat emergency. Wheelchair accessible. 
  • Windsor Terrace Library: 160 Fifth St. Open Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Wednesday from 1-8 p.m.; Thursday and Friday from 1-6 p.m.; for Saturday and Sunday hours, call 718-686-9707. Hours will not extend during heat emergency. Not wheelchair accessible. 
  • Kensington Library: 410 Ditmas Ave. Monday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Tuesday from 1-8 p.m.; Wednesday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Thursday from 1-8 p.m.; Friday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; for Saturday and Sunday hours, call 718-435-9431. Hours will not extend during heat emergency. Not wheelchair accessible. 
  • Brookdale Neighborhood Senior Center/Agudath Israel of America: 817 Ave. H. Open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., for Saturday and Sunday hours, call 718-434-8670. Hours will not extend during heat emergency. Wheelchair accessible.
