No Injuries After Fire Breaks Out on E. 2nd Street

Blaze broke out just after 8 a.m. in a first floor apartment.

About 60 firefighters using 12 fire trucks swiftly put out a blaze in a three-story house on E. 2nd Street Saturday morning.

There were no injuries from the fire, which broke out in a first floor apartment at 388 E. 2nd Street between Beverly Road and Avenue C just after 8 a.m. It was under control at 8:29 a.m. an FDNY spokesman said.

Miriam Abeijon, who lives down the block, said she heard that the fire started after a cat knocked over a candle, but fire officials could not confirm those details.

Abeijon said that despite the small size of the fire, the response was big.

"It seemed like the whole fire department was here," she said.
