A local early childhood program is looking for a teaching assistant.

"Small, play-based and progressive Early Childhood program in the Park Slope/Windsor Terrace area of Brooklyn is seeking to fill the following positions:
-Assistant Teacher for our 2012 summer session (July-early August)
-Assistant Teacher for the 2012-13 school year in a mixed age classroom (2.6-5 years old)
-Substitute Teachers (Head, Assistant) for the 2012-13 school year in a mixed age classroom (2.6-5 years old)
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and education level.

Assistant Teacher Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
- A.A. or A.S. degree in early childhood education w/Plan of Study to complete BA/BS in ECE
OR
-Child Development Associate (CDA) certification and a study plan leading to an associate's degree in early childhood education
OR
-High School Diploma; with nine college credits in early childhood education or child development; two years experience caring for children, and a study plan leading to an associate's degree in early childhood education within seven years
-Child Abuse/Mandated Reporter and CPR/First Aid Certified
-Fingerprint Clearance (DOI)
-State Central Register (SCR) Clearance
Responsibilities include:
-Assisting Head Teacher in development and implementation of curriculum
-Interacting with families and participation in Parent/Teacher conferences (2x/year)
-Must be a team player and show initiative as a self-starter
-Must be upbeat, professional, flexible, organized and exhibit a passion for teaching in a preschool environment
Head Teacher qualifications/requirements: **Master's Degree Preferred
-BA/BS in ECE or related field w/ at least 30 ECE credits AND Master's in ECE w/3 years teaching in an Early Childhood classroom
OR
-BA/BS in ECE w/at least 3 consecutive years of teaching in an Early Childhood classroom
-Must be licensed by the New York City Board of Education and Certified by the New York State Education Department in ECE (Birth to 2nd grade)
-Child Abuse/Mandated Reporter and CPR/First Aid Certified
-Fingerprint Clearance (DOI)
-State Central Register (SCR) Clearance
-Working knowledge of the Creative Curriculum model a huge +
Responsibilities include:
-Plan educational components of the program and carry out ECE curriculum including program enrichment such as field trips, cooking projects, etc.
-Submit weekly thematic lesson plans, communicate with families via e-mail/in-person and write quarterly classroom newsletters to families
-Conduct students' academic assessments based on their age group and set appropriate goals as needed
-Maintain records of attendance and communicate with families in a warm, inclusive and understanding manner
-Supervise and work with teacher aides and work w/director on setting their goals and assessing their performance
-Must be upbeat, professional, flexible, organized and exhibit a passion for teaching in a preschool environment
-Must be a self-starter and willing to go the extra mile for the benefit of the classroom/program
