Kensington Fire Ignited By 'Improper Use Of Gas' : Report

A fire that broke out Monday afternoon was caused by someone trying to strip paint by using gas, according to the New York Post.

KENSINGTON, NY — A fire that injured three in Brooklyn Monday was caused by a person using gasoline to remove paint, the New York Post reported.

The fire department responded to the explosion at the two-story house in Kensington at around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, according to FDNY. The fire, which erupted at at 820 Friel Place, was ignited by “improper use of gasoline," according to the Post's sources.

A person was attempting to strip paint off a tile, the Post reported.

The fire — which sent three people to an area hospital, including one with a serious though not life-threatening injury— drew roughly 60 firefighters to the scene Monday afternoon.

The building was ordered demolished by the Department of Buildings, the Post reported on Monday.
