A wedding on Thursday night in Borough Park, one of Brooklyn’s famous Orthodox Jewish neighborhoods, was interrupted by a fire that erupted beneath a wedding hall.

An FDNY spokesman tells Patch that around 12:11 a.m., firefighters responded to a kitchen fire in a basement at 1263 38th Street — the same address as Tiferes Rikva, a popular local wedding hall.

The FDNY lists the property as a “four-story brick building, 60 feet by 100 feet.”

Tiferes Rikva, described as “a spacious and beautiful venue for your next simcha” that seats 630 people, shares the large building during the day with the Yeled V’Yalda Early Childhood Center.

Photos from the scene, tweeted by the @NYScanner account, showed an Orthodox Jewish bride in full, traditional gown and veil observing the scene from next to a fire truck.

FDNY officials report that the fire was under control by about 12:30 a.m. and that there were no injuries.

“It was a kitchen fire,” says a spokesman. ”The marshals will look into it.”

Patch has contacted Tiferes Rikva and Yeled V’Yalda for more info on how the damage may affect operations.
