Prospect Park Cell Phone Tower Will Be Down By Monday, Park Says

The tower was installed in anticipation of a four mile road race this weekend, the Prospect Park Alliance said.

WINDSOR TERRACE, BROOKLYN — A massive cell phone tower at the intersection of 16th Street and Prospect Park Southwest is merely temporary, the Prospect Park Alliance confirmed Friday.

The structure, pictured above, was put up in anticipation of the New York Road Runners's Al Gordon Brooklyn four mile race taking place this weekend, Prospect Park Alliance spokeswoman Lucy Gardner said.

Garder said the tower was set up "to boost connectivity during the race this weekend, which is necessary for the NYRR registration operations." It should be removed by Monday, she said.

This particular tower is larger than typical ones, Gardner said, adding that it was installed with the knowledge of the park's Special Events department.

News of the tower's temporary status was first reported by DNAinfo's Leslie Albrecht, who (if this reporter may take a moment of personal privilege) is a very nice person.
