The Early Word: $1,000 Raised for Holly, the Babbo's Bookstore Cat

1. Just 36 hours after posting a plea to help fund emergency treatment for Holly, the Babbo's Books store cat, owner Leonora Stein has reported via Facebook that all $1,000 of the estimated vet costs have been covered, thanks to community donations.
2. Challenge your child's mind on Thursday with age-appropriate questions and fun prizes at Central Library's Brain Quest Challenge. For ages 5 to 13, from 4 to 5 p.m. for more information.
3. Kids under 12-years-old ride Prospect Park's Carousel for free each Thursday from 12 to 6 p.m. Adults are welcome to ride, too, but must pony up the $2 admission fee. for more information.

4. tABLE Health, a local business that emphasizes sustainable and nutritiously-focused cooking, is holding a workshop at Brooklyn Commune geared toward healthy eating for kids. The session will be held on Aug. 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. Cost is $60. Click here for more information.
