Water Bill Too High? Dispute it Online

If you're one of several residents stricken by the high price of your water bill, don't panic yet: You may be able to contest it. 

Public Advocate Bill de Blasio has assembled a step-by-step guide to disputing your water bill, following a hearing held earlier this month with the city's water provider, the Department of Environmental Protection. 

The public advocate's office has reportedly received more than 500 complaints about sudden spikes in the price of water, following the installation of automated meter readers by the DEP. 

In some cases, these spikes resulted in a bill 10 times higher than normal.
