Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools: CMS Announces New Principals 1.11.22

​Three principal appointments were announced at tonight's Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education meeting.

Dawsey "Darryl" Conner Jr. was named principal at Alexander Graham Middle. He has been assistant principal at Mallard Creek High since 2019. Conner was dean of students from 2017-2019 and a teacher from 2015-2017 at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle. He was a teacher and interventionist at Loris Elementary in Horry County Schools, S.C., from 2012-2015.

Conner earned a bachelor's degree in middle grades education from Coastal Carolina University, Conway, S.C./Winthrop University, Rock Hill, S.C. He also earned a master's degree in educational administration and leadership from Grand Canyon University, Phoenix.

Tanya Branham was named principal at Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology. She has been principal at Mountain Island Lake Academy since 2016. Branham was assistant principal of instruction at William Amos Hough High from 2012-2016. She was assistant principal at Southwest Middle from 2011-2012 and at Quail Hollow Middle from 2004-2011. She was a teacher at South Mecklenburg High from 1997-2004.

Branham earned a bachelor's degree in education from Central State University, Wilberforce, Ohio. She also earned a master's degree in education from Winthrop University, Rock Hill, S.C.

Frederick "Rick" Mohrien was named principal of the new southeast relief elementary school. Mohrien has been principal at Winget Park Elementary since 2017. He was assistant principal at Shamrock Gardens Elementary from 2014-2017 and resident principal at Albemarle Road Elementary from 2013-2014. He was a teacher at Gilbertsville-Mount Upton Middle/High in Gilbertsville-Mount Upton Central School District, Gilbertsville, N.Y., from 2010-2013 and at Afton Central High in Afton Central School District, Afton, N.Y., from 2009-2010. He was dean of students at Hancock Central High, Hancock Central School District, Hancock, N.Y., in 2009, a teacher at Jefferson Academy Charter School in Broomfield, Colo., in 2008 and a teacher at Hancock Central High from 2005-2008.

Mohrien earned a bachelor's degree in adolescent education/social studies from the State University of New York at Fredonia, Fredonia, N.Y. He also earned a master's degree in adolescent education from the State University of New York at Oneonta, Oneonta, N.Y.
