CPD Identifies Mooresville Driver Fatally Shot In I-77 Toll Lane

CPD is searching for a white Econoline passenger van after a 34-year-old Mooresville man was found fatally shot in a vehicle Thursday.

CORNELIUS, NC — A homicide investigation is underway in Cornelius after a 34-year-old man was found shot inside a vehicle along Interstate 77 early Thursday morning, according to Cornelius Police Department.

CPD identified the victim as Brandon David Hedrick of Mooresville.

Police are now asking for public assistance identifying a suspect vehicle in the homicide case.

"The vehicle is possibly a white Ford Econoline passenger van," CPD said. "Cornelius Police are also seeking information from anyone that may have been traveling I-77 southbound around 6:10am."

According to WJZY, Hedrick was found dead inside a vehicle near mile marker 26, north of Sam Furr Road around 6:30 a.m.

A North Carolina state trooper pulled over to assist what they thought was a stranded motorist in the toll lane, however found the driver unresponsive, WSOC reported. The person was later pronounced dead by MEDIC, according to the station.

CPD said anyone with information is asked to contact Captain Thompson with the Cornelius Police Department at 704-892-7773.
