Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools: Calendar Revision - Feb. 21 Is A Teacher Workday

Monday, Feb. 21 will revert to a teacher workday as it was originally scheduled. This is a change from the previously-communicated intent to use the day as a weather make-up day for students due to the snow day in January. This calendar update allows the district to have flexibility should more severe weather occur before the end of the school year. With this change, CMS has three district wide emergency days remaining.

District leaders considered several calendar dates to make up the instructional day, but reached the decision to make up the time by not releasing high school students early on spring exam days. This results in an additional five hours of instruction time. The remaining three hours will be made up by making May 4 a full day of instruction and not an early release day as previously scheduled.  

Early release days are established by the superintendent and may be modified to supplement instructional hours in the calendar as needed and does not require Board of Education action.
