​Three principal appointments were announced at the Feb. 8Β Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education meeting.

Erica Gipson was named principal at Mountain Island Lake Academy. She has been assistant principal since 2017 at South Mecklenburg High, where she was a principal intern and dean of students from 2016-2017. Gipson earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Howard University in Washington, D.C. She also earned master's degrees in public administration from the University of New Haven, West Haven, Conn., and in educational leadership from Queens University of Charlotte.

Kylene Collins was named principal at Starmount Academy of Excellence. She has been assistant principal at Huntingtowne Farms Elementary since 2018 and was dean of students at Merry Oaks International Academy from 2016-2018. She also was a facilitator from 2014-2016 and a teacher from 2006-2014 at Paw Creek Elementary. Collins earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education and music from Elon University, Elon, and a master's degree in school administration and leadership from Gardner-Webb University, Boiling Springs.

Danielle Baker was named principal at Winget Park Elementary. She has been assistant principal at W.R. Odell Elementary since 2018 and was assistant principal at W.M. Irvin Elementary from 2015-2018; both schools are in Cabarrus County Schools. Baker was an instructional facilitator at H.H. Beam Elementary in Gaston County Schools from 2012-2015 and was a CMS teacher at Croft Community Elementary from 2008-2012 and Mallard Creek Elementary from 2007-2008. She also was a teacher at Red Bug Elementary in Seminole County Schools, Florida, from 2004-2007. Baker earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Central Florida, Orlando, Fla., and a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from the American College of Education, Indianapolis.
