Davidson Police Warn Of Mail Thefts Targeting Checks
Police in Davidson are urging residents to pay bills online following a rash of mailbox thefts targeting checks.

DAVIDSON, NC β Davidson Police are advising residents to pay monthly bills online when possible following a rash of local mailbox thefts targeting checks.
"During the past few weeks, the Davidson Police Department has received numerous reports of mail, specifically checks, stolen from residential mailboxes," DPD said. "Criminals alter the payee and amounts, resulting in issues for the victims recovering their money from banks and penalties for missed payments."
The easiest way to head off a mailbox heist is to conduct financial transactions online when possible, DPD said.

"The best practice is paying bills online through a secure bank server connection, verified by your institution," DPD said. "However, if you prefer to mail a paper check, consider a United States Postal Service drop box or take the payment inside the Post Office for processing."
