
Congresswoman to Visit Local High School
After receiving a personal invitation from Douglas Byrd High School (DBHS) Assistant Principal and 2013 North Carolina Secondary Assistant Principal of the Year Yolanda Epps, Representative Renee Ellmers will be visiting DBHS on Monday, April 22 at 1:00 p.m. During her visit, the congresswoman plans to tour various classrooms and academies, participate in a Q & A session with students, and enjoy lunch prepared by the school’s culinary arts department. It was during Epps’ recent visit to Washington, DC, to compete for the national assistant principal of the year title that she met and extended an invitation to the lawmaker who is from Harnett County.
Cultural Exploration
The students and staff at Cumberland International Early College High School are sponsoring a Cultural Night on Tuesday, April 23 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. in Lilly Gymnasium on the campus of Fayetteville State University. Those in attendance will be able to experience cultures from around the world through dance, music, showcases, artifacts, and food. Orchestra Festival Showcases Musical Talents of Students
The CCS and the Cumberland County Board of Education present the 33rd Annual Spring Orchestra Festival on Tuesday, April 23 and Thursday, April 25 at 7:00 p.m. in the Cumberland County Crown Arena. The April 23 student performance will feature 5th and 6th graders along with students from Eastover-Central Elementary School. A special performance by the Middle School Youth Orchestra will conclude the evening’s program.
The April 25 performance will highlight the musical stylings of 7th and 8th graders along with the Cumberland County Youth Orchestra and the All-County High School Orchestra. This year, the groups will perform music from a variety of television shows and movies. The concert is free and open to the public.

“Real Talk”
The Teenage Pregnancy Prevention Task Force presents “Real Talk” on Wednesday, April 24 at 7:00 p.m. on the campus of Douglas Byrd High School (1624 Ireland Drive). During the session, the Task Force will share information and valuable resources about teen pregnancy prevention with youth and the community. This event is free and open to the public. Teacher Job Fair Planned
The Cumberland County Schools’ Human Resources Department is sponsoring a teacher job fair on Saturday, April 27 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Jack Britt High School (7403 Rockfish Road). Prospective teachers will get the opportunity to interview with principals during the fair with hopes of filling vacancies throughout the school system.
