Thursday morning North Carolina's (D) Sen. Kay Hagan held a media conference call to discuss her position in the bi-partisan agreement that helped to stop the tax hike that affects many middle class families in our community.
"It is totally unacceptable for Washington to once again wait until, and past the 11th hour to find a solution," Hagan said. "Working together should not be this hard, we teach our children to work together and we should be able to lead by example."

Hagan said she would have preferred a more comprehensive balanced solution to avert the fiscal cliff, but voted for the plan that passed with 89 votes in the senate, a high bi-partisan vote.
The new law includes a permanent extension of the middle class tax cuts, important to families in North Carolina. The law also extends the emergency unemployment insurance for one year.

"I'm glad the bill has been signed into law but we still have looming defense cuts that will have an outside impact on North Carolina," said Hagan."We have to continue to resolve our sky rocketing debt."
The decision and vote delays the sequester for two months so that the group can have a few more weeks to work on a balanced plan to work on deficit reduction that the country needs.
As the Fort Bragg and Fayetteville community is painfully aware, the plan cuts to defense spending will have a serious impact on our state because of our large military footprint.
