"... Always be Batman" Card to Soldier Goes Viral

Letter of encouragement to a soldier from a random female well-wisher makes women swoon over superheroes.

While care packages are a common practice for military families and civilian supporters alike, it seems everyone is abuzz about a recent note mailed to a soldier.

In the hand penned card from 'Caitlin in Texas', as the card is signed, she thanks the soldier and tells him to always be himself - unless he can be like Batman.

Ahhh, superheroes. We are all enamored by them and have grown up with them. And we will keep seeing the latest movies about them.

The younger generation seems drawn towards Spiderman. He's a humble, guy-next-door who needs rescued by love, aka: Mary Jane. Then later, turns to his dark side, the evil Spiderman. He eventually comes back around to whom he was made to be.

The older generation seems to relate and pull for Superman. I get that. He started the whole superhero movie thing rolling. The underdog. A hardworking geeky guy who wants to do good and rescue those in danger. A guy who doesn't realize how attractive he is, even in glasses, but especially so in his superhero uniform, no mask to hide behind.

Batman falls somewhere in between. The Dark Knight. He has a dark past, is a self-made man with all the money and toys to boot. And yes, he is easy on the eyes. Women will always swoon over Batman. Men do too in their own way. We all want a hero. Someone strong, good heart, willing to risk his life for others.

Superheroes are really just regular men, trying to get the girl, and make a difference along the way, all while balancing life. Society doesn't even deem them attractive until they are in their uniforms - when their confidence soars, and they are doing extraordinary things for the greater good.

On military bases, and in living rooms across the United States, grown women (married women) are swooning over superheroes, fictitious 'bad boys' in junky page turners, and don't even get me started on vampires.Therein lies the problem. We are making idols out of fictitious characters for others to measure up to.

When all along, these women are married to men who put on a uniform everyday and have at some point put themselves in harms way and 'saved the world'. Each in his own way. Some have even lost their lives, leaving their true love behind, picking up the pieces, with their hero's cape still folded in a drawer. Those are the real superheroes. Legends.

With marriages crumbling and family counselors practically installing revolving doors on their offices to accommodate more clients to help with the 'he said, she said', the problem seems pretty simple. Why do we want what we already have? Never mind the coffee. Wake up and smell the pheromones, ladies.

Do you make your man feel like Batman at the end of the day when he walks through the door at night? Think about your early dating years - when things were different. More light-hearted, flirtatious and fun, you can see it in old photographs for sure. Before deployments, mortgages and PTSD. What attracted you to one another? What are you going to do to get that back?

Your man might not be your ideal superhero that society paints for you. But I believe that you can bring out the superhero in your spouse by how you talk to him, treat him and if you believe in him. Are you his Mary Jane, Lois Lane, Rachel Dawes, or CatWoman - or does he feel like you too are against him adding to the weight of the world on his shoulders with your demands? Ouch. Sorry, if that stung.

I know every situation is different, there is not always a happy ending. I've been married to the military for 16 years, that's ions these days, so that's the only perspective I know. But tonight, I'm going to kiss my Batman like I mean it.
