North Carolina barbecue keeps customers loyal

In business since 1965 by Alfred and Julie Barefoot, this family owned and operated establishment is a staple for local residents.

With two locations, the barbecue is prepared daily at their Owen Drive location. Both locations are open from 10:30a.m. to 9p.m., Monday through Saturday, closed on Sunday.

Their North Carolina recipe of vinegar soaked shredded pork, topped with cole slaw and hot sauce is what customers come for. Baked beans or hush puppies are popular side choices

And of course the tea. If you are not from the south, you say 'sweet tea', but in these parts one does not have to explain.

Take home their homemade banana pudding or strawberry shortcake for dessert.

"Every Wednesday we come for hot lunch," said Hope Langston, 64-year old Steadman resident. "We split the hush puppies with our meal."
