Sinclair Lawyers Promise 'an Extremely Aggressive Defense'

The June court-martial will be conducted as one trial for Brig. Gen. Jeffrey A. Sinclair, a judge ruled Monday.

Following Monday's pre-trial proceedings for US vs. Sinclair, Brig. Gen. Jeffrey A. Sinclair's civilian lawyer, Richard Scheff, gave a statement to the media.

"Today’s hearing marks a new departure in the case. General Sinclair’s team now includes upwards of twenty professionals, including JAG and civilian counsel, private investigators, and litigation support staff. We’re investigating the background of everyone who raised allegations against General Sinclair. If anyone misled this court, or any other court, we’ll bring that to light. You saw that today. If the accuser misled the court, we’ll bring that to light. If witnesses against General Sinclair lack credibility, or are guilty of hypocrisy, we’ll bring that to light. You can expect an extremely aggressive defense going forward, and I wouldn't be surprised to see significant problems develop with respect to some of the charges. It's apparent that there have been deep flaws in the ways some of the evidence was collected and used.”

The proceedings were expected to last for three days, but wrapped up on Monday with the military judge Col. James Pohl not yet ruling on whether certain emails involving Sinclair would be admitted as evidence.

In another motion Pohl denied the defense's request to split the upcoming court-martial into two separate trials - one for his accuser involved in the consensual relationship, and the other encompassing the separate females involved on lesser allegations.

Sinclair's court-martial is scheduled to take place on June 25 at Fort Bragg's courthouse. He faces charges that include forcible sodomy, indecent acts, violating orders and adultery.
