Fort Bragg Soldier Identified and Charged in Thursday's Fatal Collision

Fayetteville Police have charged the driver with two counts of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, but no charges were made for alleged racing in initial reports.

Police have charged a Fort Bragg soldier with two counts of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle in Thursday's fatal traffic collision on Yadkin Road at Cimarron Drive.

Nathan Freeman, 21, was driving the third car in question, when a Pontiac GTO, driven by Pfc. Michael Hickey, lost control, injuring two in a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta. Killed in the accident were Hickey and passenger Spc. Amber Bostian, both assigned to the 18th Fires Brigade. The police did not charge Freeman with racing, according to the report.

Another Fort Bragg soldier was first on the scene, as he was driving his vehicle two cars behind the Pontiac GTO and saw the accident happen. This soldier, a quartermaster officer, told Patch he saw the other G6 vehicle continue down Yadkin after the collision occurred.

"The car was on fire," said the soldier, who asked not to be named. "We were trying to get him (out of the Pontiac GTO) first, in order to get her out. There was no way we were getting her out from the passenger side -- the whole side of the door was smashed in -- but after looking at her closely we knew we couldn't help her. We did finally get the fire out; some guy came over with a fire extinguisher."

The quartermaster officer said upon the accident he immediately instructed someone else in his vehicle to call 911 and that Fayetteville Police arrived at the scene within five minutes. He gave a witness statement to police.
