Man Charged with Attempted Child Abduction
A registered sex offender has been returned to jail after he was accused of trying to abduct an 11-year old child in a public building.Â
Patrick Maurice Woodruff, 43, of 6573 Vineyard Drive, Fayetteville is being held on a $70,000 bond in the Cumberland County Detention Center, on charges of attempted child abduction.

The victim alleges that on February 18, 2013, Woodruff tried to lure him away from his father, while they were inside the county’s Department of Social Services. Woodruff was captured on video talking to the child. The child refused Woodruff’s advances and ran to his father to report what had occurred.
The child was unharmed and a search for Woodruff began immediately.Â

Death of Child Being Investigated
Cumberland County Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives are investigating the death of a 9-year old boy.
The child was discovered unresponsive at his home on Trappers Road, Fayetteville.
The body will be sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.
