Fayetteville Youth Meets Gold Medal Gymnast, Gabby Douglas

An early birthday present for one Stoney Point Elementary School student.

Stoney Point elementary student, Reagan McGary met her hero Gabrielle Douglas on Monday night. The Olympic gold medal gymnast was at UNC Pembroke for part of the university’s Distinguished Speaker Series that was free to the public.

Reagan asked Douglas: "What is a normal training day like for you?"

A: "Homeschool in the morning and 4-5 hours of conditioning for an hour, then stretching and 45 minutes to an hour on different apparatus followed by more conditioning and stretching. Home for dinner and then to bed. 6 days a week!"

" Did that really happen?," Reagan asked when she arrived back home to Fayetteville with an autographed poster with a hand written birthday wish for the soon-to-be 9-year old.

Director of UNCP’s Office of Student Involvement and Leadership notes, “Her story touches a variety of topics, and the evening with her will be educational and inspirational. We’re really looking forward to having her with us.”
