FORSCOM's Gen. David Rodriguez Relinquishes Command

Forces Command prepares for acting commander after 18 months with four-star general.

 

Gen. David M. Rodriguez said goodbye to Forces Command on Friday outside of Marshall Hall, home of the U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) and Reserve Command Headquarters.

The four-star general was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal after spending 18 months as the FORSCOM commander. He is slated as the next commander of U.S. Africa Command, headquartered in Germany.

"We want him to lead in the most important jobs that our U.S. military has," Gen. Raymond T. Odierno Odierno said. "That's to be a combatant commander. There's no better individual to pick."

The acting commander of Forces Command will be Lt. Gen. Burke Garrett, until a permanent candidate is selected.

Sharing a past history together serving in Iraq, Garrett was Odierno's chief of staff.
