Fort Bragg Soldier and Spouse Share Boston Marathon Experience

Over 100 people showed up to Fort Bragg's Team Red, White and Blue walk/run to honor the victims of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.

Waiting for her husband to cross the finish line at the 2013 Boston Marathon, Fort Bragg military spouse Michelle Heney was half a block away from where the first explosion took place.

Jason did not get to complete his much anticipated marathon finish and was stopped before about a quarter mile before he neared where the first explosion occurred.

The soldier said he did not hear the explosion since he was listening to music in his headphones.

"I saw it," recalled Michelle in a somber tone.

Michelle knew to look for her spouse by looking at their group's bus, where they were finally reunited after what seemed like a long time during the frantic day's event.

The Fort Bragg soldier, Jason Heney, was able to use a spectator's cell phone to text his spouse letting her know he was fine.

"It was a good weekend up until that event," said Jason sporting his bright yellow official 2013 Boston Marathon jersey. "We had never been there and were there for a historical celebration and toured historic sites."

The Heney family came out to Hedrick Stadium on Wednesday to participate in the 26.2 minute run/walk event with Fort Bragg's Team Red, White and Blue.

Just over 100 people showed up and started together running the first lap in silence, or prayer, for the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing.
