Harold Medlock Announced as Fayetteville's Police Chief

Wednesday's press conference made it official

A press conference was called at the Fayetteville Police Department where City Manager Ted Voorhees announced the city's new police chief, Harold Medlock.

Medlock served in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department as he advanced through the ranks since 1993. Most recently Medlock was responsible for security planning for the Democratic National Convention in September 2012 where he oversaw 21 local, state and federal public safety organization sub-committees.

"My focus is always on reducing crime," said Medlock when asked about the high up tick in crime over the past few months. "If I'm not thinking about that as a police officer, then I'm not doing my job."

Medlock begins his job on February 18 and said he still has to tie up loose administrative ends in Charlotte and has to find a house in Fayetteville for he and his spouse, Gloria.

"Mr. Medlock's extensive experience as a deputy chief for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has prepared him well to serve as Fayetteville's next chief of police," Voorhees said. "His ability to manage a large number of officers and large scale events like the Democratic National Convention make him a great choice for the job. Mr. Medlock performed extremely well in an evaluation of his knowledge, skills and abilities to strengthen community engagement with the citizens of Fayetteville."
