Hope Mills Man Charged with Sex Crimes Involving 5-year-old

The accused, Donald Burton Yerry, faces his first court appearance on Monday.

Cumberland County Sheriff’s Detectives have charged a Hope Mills man with sex crimes involving a five-year-old girl.

Donald Burton Yerry, 77, of 822 Orchard Street was taken into custody Friday afternoon on charges of one count of first degree statutory rape, three counts of first degree statutory sex offense, one count of sexual act by substitute parent, one count of crimes against nature, one count of incest and five counts of taking indecent liberties with a child.

The alleged crimes began between January 2010 and March of the same year on more than one occasion, while inside the suspect’s home according to Debbie Tanna, Public Information Officer.

Yerry is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a one million dollar bond.  He is scheduled to make a first court appearance on Monday, February 18, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. in the Detention Center courtroom.
