How the White House Funded the Annual Easter Egg Roll
With the threat of the event being canceled, last minute donors stepped up - big.

Over 30,000 participants look forward to attending Monday's 135th annual event on the White House lawn. This year's Easter Egg Roll theme: "Be Healthy, Be Active, Be You!"
Victoria Knight-McDowell, a California mother of twin kindergarten boys came home from school announcing that the Easter Egg Roll might be canceled. According to a Washington Post news report, Knight-McDowell, owner and chief executive of Pine Bros. Softish Throat Drops, wrote a check for $25,000 to make sure the event would continue.
In a Riverdale-Park/University Park Patch news report last week, they published a memo issued by the White House to confirmed event ticket holders that stated:

“Finally, by using these tickets, guests are acknowledging that this event is subject to cancellation due to funding uncertainty surrounding the Executive Office of the President and other federal agencies. If canceled, the event will not be re-scheduled. We will notify you if there are any modifications to this event.”
The article also quotes an email from a White House staffer stating, “We are currently proceeding as planned with the Easter Egg Roll,” but adding that ticket holders have been alerted "that this event is subject to cancellation due to funding uncertainty.”

Participants will come from all 50 states through tickets received through an online lottery. Another way the event hopes to fund itself is through the sale of souvenir eggs.
