Coach Rodney Barr brings a wealth of experience

Overhills High School welcomes new Head Varsity Football Coach and Social Studies teacher, Coach Rodney Clemons Barr.

Coach Barr comes to Cumberland County from South Robeson High School, where he also taught Social Studies. He has eight years experience as the head coach/assistant coach of highly competitive football, baseball, and basketball teams for quality 3A high school athletic programs in Florence, S.C., Rowland, N.C., and a post graduate program in Charlotte, NC. 

Coach Barr has a successful track record of managing athletic programs, helping in the development of talent, and the development of young men at the varsity and junior varsity levels.  He has been actively involved in faculty, athletic, and student related activities and proven athletic administration skills.

  • Coached over 40 student athletes who have attained athletic scholarships. Coached varsity football, basketball, and baseball teams that have qualified for post-season play each year.  Coached basketball teams who have finished no less than 4th in conference play for 5 consecutive years.  Coached baseball teams who have finished no less than 2nd in conference play for 5 consecutive years.
  • Recruitment of high school student athletes which included following the complete recruiting process.  This process included scouting, recruit follow up, family consultation, and scholarship evaluation. 
  • Member of the South Carolina Football Coaches Association, South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association, and South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association.
  • Collegiate baseball playing experience includes Francis Marion University 1998-1999 (Florence, SC), USC-Salkehatchie 2000-2001 (Allendale, SC), and Shaw University 2001-2003 (Raleigh, NC)
  • College football playing experience includes Shaw University 2001-2003 (Raleigh, NC)
  • Served as the lead advisor for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for the past 6 years.
