Teen Charged with Sex Crimes Involving Minor

Cumberland County Sheriff’s Detectives and members of the National Park Service have arrested a 19-year-old student of the Oconaluftee Job Corps in Cherokee, North Carolina.

Christopher Griffith was taken into custody on Friday, January 25, 2013 on two counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor, first degree statutory rape and first degree statutory sex offense.

According to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, an investigation began after the Sheriff's Office received a report that the pair had met online via Facebook. Shortly afterward, Griffith and his victim arranged to meet face to face in Cumberland County where the alleged crimes occurred.

Griffith is being held in the Swain County jail and will be extradited to Cumberland County to face charges, according to the Sheriff's Office.
