Crime investigations for two cases surrounding death and assault are underway in Fayetteville.

Homicide Detectives Investigate Death

Cumberland County Sheriff’s Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a Parkton man.

Joseph Durant, III, 51, of 2072 Lake Upchurch Road, was found dead in his home late last night.

Investigators were dispatched to Durant’s home at around 9:30 p.m. following a 911 call from Durant’s wife.  When deputies arrived on scene, Durant’s body was found lying on the living room floor.

Durant’s body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Raleigh for autopsy.

Homicide Detectives Investigate Assault

Cumberland County Sheriff’s Homicide detectives are investigating the assault a long distance truck driver.

Wael Wael, 46, of Jacksonville, Florida (this is correct – the first and last names are the same) was found lying on the median on Goldsboro Road and exit 58 North in Cumberland County.  

Detectives were called to the scene early yesterday morning by a passerby who noticed the victim lying on the median.

Wael was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.
