The central North Carolina counties are under a tornado watch until 9a.m.

This includes the cities of: CHAPEL HILL...CLINTON...DURHAM... FAYETTEVILLE...GOLDSBORO...HENDERSON...LAURINBURG...LILLINGTON... LOUISBURG...NASHVILLE...OXFORD...PITTSBORO...RAEFORD...RALEIGH... ROANOKE RAPIDS...ROCKY MOUNT...ROXBORO...SANFORD...SMITHFIELD... WARRENTON AND WILSON according to a NOAA report.

A strong, upper level system and associated cold front moving through the area carries with it the main threat of damaging winds but a few embedded tornadoes are possible.
