HUNTERSVILLE, NC — An 11-year-old child who went missing in Huntersville Tuesday was quickly located by police K9 Gunner, according to the Huntersville Police Department.

The child was reported missing around 4 p.m. near Henderson Hill Road, an HPD spokesperson told Patch.

"Officers circulated the area questioned multiple residents/people in the area. K9 Gunner and Handler Officer [Daniel] Johnson responded to conduct a track. The child was located a short time later, unharmed," the spokesperson said, adding, "While police K9s may be cute, minus the teeth, they also serve as an invaluable asset to a department."

Since joining HPD in July 2019, Gunner has been involved in four missing persons tracks.
