- Sean Letts, who attended the NASCAR Technical Institute in Mooresville, is being remembered this Friday, Aug. 4, with the Sean Letts Memorial for the Hy-Tech Concrete Sportsman. Pit gates will open at 5 p.m. Grandstands open at 6 p.m. and racing will begin at 7:15 p.m. (Niagara Frontier Publications)
- Death in the waters! North Carolina has seen three residents die in July from infections caused by Vibrio, a bacteria naturally found in warm seawater and brackish water. According to the Mooresville Tribune, "Of 47 Vibrio cases among North Carolina residents since 2019, eight have been fatal, health officials said. Vibrio infection[s] have increased in recent decades and the range of waters associated with infection has spread north due to increasing water temperatures, officials said." (Mooresville Tribune)
