- The inaugural Mooresville Fondo charity bike ride will take place on Sept. 9, as part of Mooresville's 150th anniversary celebration. According to a press release, "The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and the Top of the Lake Rotary Club will receive significant proceeds from the event. Mooresville Realty [is the] presenting sponsor. The inaugural Mooresville Fondo will cater to cyclists of all skill levels, offering three distinct rides: a 25-mile route, a 50-mile route, and a 75-mile route." - Yesterday was the first day of school for students and staff in the Mooresville-Graded School District. It also marked the first time the doors to the new Selma Burke Middle School opened to welcome more than 600 students. (WBTV)
- On Wednesday, Mooresville Town Commissioner Bobby Compton announced his candidacy for mayor. According to Iredell Free News, "[Compton] is a Mooresville native and retired firefighter. [He] is running against former commissioner Chris Carney in the November election. Mayor Miles Atkins decided not to seek re-election." (Iredell Free News)
