Here are the top three stories in and around Mooresville today:

  1. The Oak Ridge City Council has scheduled a special meeting on Aug. 28 to vote on the contract of Randall "Randy" Hemann as the new city manager. Hemann, who currently serves as the town administrator in Mooresville, was selected as the city manager over fellow finalist Aretha Ferrell-Benavides. Hemann's contract is currently being drafted and he intends to give his current employer 60 days' notice before starting his new role in Oak Ridge. (Oakridger)
  2. The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office reported that a registered sex offender who was previously convicted of 11 sex crimes involving a minor was arrested for violating his sex offender employment status. Joel Courage allegedly led a motorsport racing team called E33 Motor Sports in Mooresville that involved juveniles. He was found to be supervising minors on his race team, which is considered a felony offense for a registered sex offender, according to the sheriff’s office. (WSOC Charlotte)
  3. The Iredell County Health Department and United Way of Iredell County are collaborating to address food insecurity, which impacts approximately 20,000 residents in the area. They have launched the website IredellFood.org to raise awareness about this issue and provide information on accessing and donating food. Community leaders, nonprofits, businesses, and citizens are being called upon to join the effort in addressing this pressing concern. (Statesville Record & Landmark)
