Iredell Man Charged In Theft Of Vehicle, Firearm: Iredell Sheriff

Andrew Steven Coleman, 33, was charged with numerous crimes including felony larceny of a motor vehicle and firearm, ICSO said.

IREDELL COUNTY, NC — A 33-year-old Statesville man was recently arrested and charged with a laundry list of felonies following the theft of a vehicle and a firearm inside it earlier this month, the Iredell County Sheriff's Office reported.

The Aug. 12 theft occurred at a business located in the 800 block of Old Mountain Road in Statesville.

"While deputies were on scene, they discovered the vehicle had been dropped off at the business the night before by the owner," ICSO said in a statement about the incident. "When the deputies interviewed the owner, they learned there was also a firearm inside of the vehicle."

During the course of the investigation, detectives interviewed witnesses near the scene and also found a dirt bike in a wooded area near the business was also reported stolen from a nearby home the same night.

One week after the theft, the stolen vehicle was found about 50 miles north at an exit off Interstate 77 in Surry County. Evidence found inside the vehicle identified the suspect in the case as Andrew Steven Coleman, 33, ICSO said.

Coleman, who was out on bond for other felony theft charges, was arrested Aug. 24. He was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, and was charged with felony breaking and entering to a motor vehicle; felony larceny of a motor vehicle; felony larceny after breaking and entering; felony larceny of a firearm; misdemeanor larceny of a motor vehicle; and misdemeanor failure to appear. He was issued a $31,000 secured bond.
