Missing Swimmer Identified After Body Pulled From Lake Norman

MOORESVILLE, NC — An investigation is underway after a 37-year-old South Carolina woman drowned in Lake Norman Sunday afternoon, according to reports.

Authorities received reports of a missing swimmer at Davidson College Lake Campus around 3 p.m. Aug. 22, and began searching the area, the Statesville Record & Landmark reported. Less than an hour later, a body was located.

Davidson College Lake Campus is located at 152 Lake Campus Drive in Mooresville.

The victim, who was identified Monday morning as Whitney Brooke Wilkins of Greenville, South Carolina, was pronounced dead at the scene, WSOC reported.

According to the station, Wilkins is not a student at Davidson College.

The incident is now under investigation by the Iredell County Sheriff's Office and North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, WSOC said.
