Here are the top stories today in Mooresville:
- A native of Mooresville, Airman Christopher Armstrong, is serving in the U.S. Navy as a member of a helicopter squadron forward deployed to Japan. Armstrong attended William Amos Hough High School. He graduated in 2017. According to the Mooresville Tribune, "Armstrong now serves in Japan as part of the Forward Deployed Naval Forces. These naval forces operate with allies and partners to preserve a free and open Indo-Pacific region. Service members in this region are part of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, which has the largest area of responsibility in the world." Good luck Christopher!(Mooresville Tribune)
- If you’re wanting to add a fluffy ball of love and affection to your household, you should check out these Mooresville area shelters for a pet you can take home. Millions of pets are given to animal pounds each year nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Of those, approximately 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats. Shelters often look after other animals in search of a permanent home as well, including pigs, birds and even horses. However, only half of all shelter animals — about 3.2 million — are adopted each year, according to ASPCA data. This means millions of animals — some right here in the Mooresville area — are still waiting for their forever homes. With help from our friends at Petfinder, Patch has rounded up this week’s list of animals available for adoption near you. If you're a cat person, meet Babs, a Domestic Short Hair up for adoption. Or if dogs are more your thing, there are several great dogs available, too. (Mooresville Patch)
