Police Administer Narcan To Mooresville Dog After It Ingested Opiates
The dog's owners desperately flagged down Mooresville police after it ingested a white substance found in a bag on the ground.

MOORESVILLE, NC — Two Mooresville police officers saved a dog's life with quick thinking, according to the department.
The dog's owners flagged down police on Jan. 16 after 9:30 p.m. desperate for help. The dog had found a plastic bag filled with a white substance while was walking around the grass at a local hotel.
Immediately, the dog began shaking, turned lethargic and became unable to even stand up.

Officers Isenhower and Pezzeca jumped into action, recognizing symptoms of possible opiate poisoning, and administered Narcan to the dog. Narcan is a prescription nasal spray used to treat opioid overdoses.
The first dose showed some improvement and the dog seemed to come to, but it wasn't enough. Officers gave the dog a second dose and it was able to stand, act normally, walk around and even jump.

The dog's owners, who wished to remain anonymous, were able to take the dog to a local emergency vet for further care.
Assistant Chief Frank Falzone acknowledged the officers’ quick thinking on the scene to save the dog.
“While I am always very proud of the exemplary work of our officers, I am extremely proud of how sincerely compassionate they are about the services they provide,” Falzone said. “This life-saving event is not only the most recent example of their outstanding efforts, but also serves as a reminder of their unwavering dedication to making a difference, for all, in our community.”
