NORTH CAROLINA — NASCAR team owner Richard Childress appeared on Fox News Wednesday, where he offered the country of Ukraine one million rounds of ammunition.

"I was listening the other day and I heard President Zelensky say he didn't want out, he wanted ammunition," Childress said on Fox News.

He called the chairman of Ammo Inc. and told them he wanted to get involved and help provide the Ukrainians with bullets as the country tries to fight off Russia's invading armies.

Ammo Inc. is based in Los Angeles, and owner Fred Wagenhals, CEO, was eager to help.

“Ammo Inc., and we as Americans stand firmly in support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and independence, as we stand for freedom and democracy everywhere. While we fervently hope for a quick and peaceful resolution to the crisis and that diplomacy will win the day, we condemn the Russian aggression and its threat to Ukraine’s territorial integrity and freedom. We recognize that events are unfolding rapidly on the ground in Ukraine, and we are prepared to move quickly as possible to support Ukraine as it continues to defend itself and its freedom," Wagenhals said in a statement on Yahoo Finance.

Childress, who owns both a NASCAR team and a winery in North Carolina, says he was honored to contribute to the cause.

"This is a wake-up call for Americans, this is why we have to have our second amendment," said Childress. "To see the people in Ukraine fighting, it's terrible to see the lives that are being lost over there and we have to do all we can, and I felt with Ammo Inc. and myself, we were doing the right thing and we are going to get that ammunition to them as quick as we can," he told Fox.

Ammo Inc. is working to manufacture the ammunition now. Childress says they are working through a private company to get the ammunition to Ukraine, specifically the .762, which is the caliber most in demand.
