Strong Storms Could Produce High Winds, Hail In Mooresville

A line of storms headed toward Mooresville Monday could include strong wind gusts and pea-size hail, forecasters warned.

MOORESVILLE, NC — A line of strong thunderstorms headed toward southeastern Iredell County prompted a special weather warning from the National Weather Service Monday afternoon. The storms could produce wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea-size hail.

The storms were expected to impact southeastern Iredell County, northwestern Rowan County, along with east central Catawba and Davie until around 4 p.m.

"Gusty winds can blow down trees that are dead, or that have weakened root systems," NWS said. "Outdoor furniture and similar items can be tossed around if not anchored. Seek shelter indoors. Torrential rainfall may flood areas with poor drainage, such as ditches and underpasses."
