Wind Gusts, Hail: Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued For Iredell

The line of storm could spur 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-sized hail, the National Weather Service said.

MOORESVILLE, NC — A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Iredell and Rowan counties Wednesday evening as a line of storm with the potential for 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-sized hail moved into the region, the National Weather Service said.

The Aug. 11 warning for southeastern Iredell County and northwestern Rowan County was in effect until 6 p.m.

"Minor hail damage to vehicles is expected," NWS said. "Expect wind damage to trees and power lines."

Stormy weather was expected throughout much of the greater Charlotte metro Wednesday night.

"Scattered thunderstorms will continue this afternoon into this evening across portions of the forecast area," NWS said in a hazardous weather outlook bulletin. "Some of these storms could become strong to severe. Main impacts are cloud-to-ground lightning, brief damaging wind gusts, and heavy downpours which may lead to localized flash flooding."
