Myers Park School Guard Arrested For Sex Assault Of Student

CHARLOTTE, NC — A security guard from Alexander Graham Middle School has been arrested and charged with more than two dozen counts of sex crimes against a 13-year-old student at the Myers Park school, Charlotte police say.

Mario McIlwain, 26, was arrested July 11 following an investigation stemming from a parent’s report to police that the school employee sexually assaulted their daughter numerous times between February and May 2018 at the school located at 1800 Runnymede Lane where he was employed as a security guard/behavioral management technician.

“As a result of information and evidence gathered during the investigation, Crimes Against Children Unit Detectives obtained 27 warrants for McIlwain’s arrest,” Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said in a statement.

McIlwain was charged with nine counts of sex act by custodian, seven counts of statutory rape, two counts of statutory sex offense, and nine counts of indecent liberties with a child

CMPD said the investigation into the case remains active and ongoing and asks that anyone with information related to it or the suspect contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
