Snow Today In Charlotte? Here’s What You Can Expect

CHARLOTTE, NC -- It’s time to stockpile a few movies and extra hot chocolate. The first snowfall of the season is expected later today in the Charlotte-metro area, with rain changing into snow in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. According to forecasters, the region could see up to an inch of snow accumulation in areas north and west of Interstate 85.

Rain is guaranteed in the Charlotte region during the day Friday, with as much as a half inch falling before conditions turn snowy in the evening. The chance for snow carries over into Saturday, with about a half inch of new accumulation expected.

North Carolina Emergency Management is preparing for up to two inches in the piedmont of the state, and says accumulations will generally be limited to elevated and grassy surfaces in areas east of Interstate 77.

Rain. Patchy fog. High near 40. North northeast wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Tonight
Rain and snow, becoming all snow after 3am. Patchy fog. Low around 34. North northeast wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
Saturday (Dec. 9)
Rain and snow likely before noon, then a slight chance of rain between noon and 1pm. Patchy fog before noon. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 40. North wind around 6 mph becoming west southwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Saturday Night
Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming clear, with a low around 26. West northwest wind 7 to 9 mph.
Sunday (Dec. 10)
Sunny, with a high near 41. West northwest wind 6 to 8 mph.
