Julie Rafferty Named Phi Beta Kappa

Julie Christine Rafferty of Avon was recently elected to the Furman University chapter of Phi Beta Kappa.

Phi Beta Kappa is the nation's oldest academic honor society. It was founded in 1776 at the College of William and Mary. According to Phi Beta Kappa, only 10 percent of the nation's colleges and universities have a Phi Beta Kappa chapter.

Students who have "intellectual integrity, tolerance for other views, and a broad range of academic interests" are invited to join the society.
