Crushers Win in Bottom of Ninth

Victory over Joliet puts Crushers at .500

Kellen Kulbacki smacked a two-out single in the bottom of the ninth to bring home Kyle Shaffer with the winning run, lifting the to a 4-3 win Saturday night over the Joliet Slammers at .

The Crushers (4-4) had fallen behind, 2-0, before scoring three runs in the fourth to take a 3-2 lead before Joliet tied the game in the fifth on a solo home run by Bobby Leeper. The game remained at 3-3 until Kulbacki's walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth.

Ruben Flores (1-0) got the win after pitching two scoreless innings in relief.

The Crushers and Slammers wrap up their series at 5:05 p.m. Sunday. The game is also the first Dog Day of the season. Fans are invited to bring their dogs, and there will be dog-related events at the stadium. The Crushers are off on Monday before beginning a three-game home series with the Normal Cornbelters on Tuesday.
