Kaiser Permanente 12th Annual Eagle Run Takes Off Saturday

The streets of Avon will be filled with runners and walkers for the Kaiser Permanente 12th Annual Eagle Run on Saturday, May 26. Starting at the new location of , runners and walkers can begin registering at 7:15 a.m.
Proceeds from the event will in part go to Avon Lake-based Community Resource Services.
Options for runners include participating in either the 5-mile or 5K events. Walkers can enjoy the 5K Walk. Both the 5-mile and 5K Run/Walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the 1 Mile Kids’ Fun Run (ages 13 & under) starts at 10 a.m.

Consistent with the past 11 years, half of the proceeds of the Kaiser Permanente 2012 Avon Eagle Run will go to the Avon Schools Educational Endowment Fund. The donated money is invested, and the interest from the money is awarded as grants to fund special projects developed by teachers. The other half of the proceeds is divided between the and Over the past 11 years over $125,000 has been generated from the race.
“This is a community event with great activities for the entire family,” Jim Reitenbach, Avon Schools Superintendent, said. “We are very appreciative of our generous sponsors - particularly Kaiser Permanente - our naming sponsor along with Flavorseal of Avon, Bud Hagy (Cafe 83) and Avon Commons.”

This is the second year Kaiser Permanente has sponsored the run.
“As a non-profit health plan and health care provider, we are proud to sponsor this year’s Eagle Run,” Audra Kessler, Kaiser Permanente’s Director Marketing & Corporate Communications, said. “This event enables us to bring our Total Health initiatives to the community to improve health and help people thrive. There is an obesity problem in the United States and in northeast Ohio. Kaiser Permanente is working with community partners on events such as the Avon Eagle Run to get people moving.”
More than 1,000 runners and walkers are anticipated to participate in Saturday’s event. Race day registration fees for the 5-Mile and 5K Run/Walk is $25 and 1-Mile Kids’ Fun Run is $15. Cash awards will be provided to 5-Mile Run top three male and female runners overall. All participants in the 1-Mile Kids Fun Run receive an award.
