Make Sure to Close Your Garages

Residents of homes on Wyndemere Way near Whispering Point were creeped out in the early hours of March 17 when it looks like someone got into their garage.

Avon police reported that someone saw the garage door of a home in the 35900 block open and the two cars in the garage had their interior lights go on and off a little after 3 a.m. The homeowners checked the garage and nothing seemed amiss, until they smelled cigarette smoke. No one in the family smokes.

Three other homes in the neighborhood, including two in the 3400 block of Barrington Drive, had their garage doors opened. Nothing appeared to be taken.

Another Day, Another Scam Attempt

A woman in the 4200 block of Lake Harbor Drive got the "Grandma, I'm in jail and need money" scam phone call on March 15. She didn't fall for it, but notified Avon police because she was worried since the caller knew her grandson's name. The number was traced to Quebec.

Good Samaritan

A woman at Huntington Bank in the 2000 block of Center Road came across an elderly man walking down the busy street, looking confused. When she realized he was cold, she was able to get him into her sister's car to warm up. She called Avon police, who brought him back to his home at St. Mary of the Woods.

Who Let the Dogs Out?

Two dogs running loose attacked and injured alapacas in the 32100 block of Schwartz Road around 12:35 p.m. on March 15. Police were able to catch one of them, who belonged to a home in the 3900 block of Williams Court.

Sick

Someone dumped a pile of garbage containing the bodies of five skinned animals, which appeared to be coyotes, near the railroad tracks on Avon Commerce Parkway, on March 16.
