A Heartwood Avenue teen is in hot water with his folks after he got distracted while driving and took out two mailboxes on Jaycox Road around 12:29 a.m. on April 21.
The teen told Avon police that he looked down, swerved off the roads and hit the mailboxes in the 4400 block of Jaycox Road. He didn't know what to do, he said, so he went home.
The car, a 1996 Jeep Cherokee, was missing its front bumper, had a dented front and and the windshield was smashed. The teen's father said they will pay for the damaged mailboxes and were not going to claim the car's damage on insurance. There may be a lot of painting, scrubbing and yard work -- and not a lot of going out -- in the young man's immediate future.
