Here's a roundup of the top stories from last week.

On vacation? Sick all week? We can’t think of too many other reasons why you would have missed a week of Avon and Avon Lake Patch news.

If you did, you missed a lot. Stories last week included a man who drove from West Virginia to Avon Lake to see Venus in Transit, a missing Avon employee, and a slew of events kicking off the summer.

  •     Dan Stasiewski’s supervisor at Avon’s reported him missing after he was last seen leaving for lunch June 4. Stasiewski was located safe and sound a few days later in Sandusky.
  •    A lifelong Avon resident who started as a part-time dispatcher in the   Department was promoted to Captain on June 4.
  • Valedictorians Share Speeches    Avon and Avon Lake valedictorians Kevin Manouchehri and Michael Butrey both tied football into their commencement speeches.   while Butrey reminded students, .  
  •      A West Virginia man drove approximately 180 miles to Avon Lake to get what he thought would be the best view of Venus in Transit. He wasn’t disappointed.
  • Avon/Avon Lake Relay For Life   The annual event, held this year at Memorial Stadium, drew participants from both cities. Were you there? Share your story and photo in the gallery or comments.
  •     After being postponed for a year, Avon Lake’s Community Garden was dedicated. All 140 plots sold out and one week out, plots are sprouting vegetables.
