Tropical-Themed Relay for Life Is Saturday, June 9
Annual event is American Cancer Society's largest fundraiser
The annual Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society’s largest fundraiser, kicks off Saturday, June 9 at 1 p.m. at Memorial Stadium at
"This year for relay we have 22 teams signed up to participate. We are really excited about the event with new and exciting activities,” event co-chair Nolan Andersky said. “We have a game or activity for nearly every hour of relay from our Ms. Relay pageant to beach blanket bingo related to our tropical theme.”
Andersky said that new this year is a cruise-in from 5 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. The Joe Firment and Joyce dealerships, will be bringing some cars to show.

The public is welcome to attend, participate in games, walk the track and mix and mingle with other community members. Expect bake sales and novelty items to be available to buy.
Relay, which continues through the night because “Cancer never sleeps an we won’t sleep until there is a cure” ends after the 7 a.m. ceremonies on Sunday, June 10.

Avon Lake's will be catering some fun food to help Relayers get through the evening, Andersky said.
Entertainment chair Terri Murdock organized a host of events fro themed laps, a movie on the field, and games.

The theme for relay this year a tropical theme so visitors are encouraged to don a Hawaiian shirt or for the more daring, a hula skirt.
